Bioeconomy Observatory – First Stakeholders Round Table

Bioeconomy Observatory – First Stakeholders Round Table

26 November 2013 | Brussels, Belgium - Organized by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC)

26 November 2013 | Brussels, Belgium - Organized by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC)

On 13 February 2012, the European Commission published a Communication "Innovating for Sustainable Growth: A Bioeconomy for Europe". The Communication presents a Bioeconomy Strategy for Europe and an Action Plan which includes as Action No6 to "Establish a Bioeconomy Observatory that allows the Commission to regularly assess the progress and impact of the bioeconomy".

Since March 2013, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has started the coordination of a three-year project to set-up the Bioeconomy Observatory. Data and information will be collected and disseminated regarding the three key pillars highlighted in the EU Bioeconomy Strategy:

  1. Investments in Research, Innovation and Skills: research pillar;
  2. Reinforced policy interaction and stakeholder engagement: policy pillar;
  3. Enhancement of markets and competitiveness in bioeconomy: markets pillar.

In the frame of this project the Joint Research Centre will organise three stakeholders' roundtables on the Bioeconomy Observatory.  The first one will take place on Tuesday 26 of November in Brussels (Conference Centre Albert Borschette) from 9:00 to 17:00.

The focus of this first Stakeholders Roundtable will be on the methodology for the upcoming Bioeconomy Observatory activities related to data collection and data dissemination.

The programme will be divided into three sessions addressing the research, the policy and the market pillars respectively.

Each session will include presentations from the JRC and from Bioeconomy Observatory partners, to be followed by discussions with the audience about stakeholders' comments and expectations regarding the Bioeconomy Observatory methodology, key data to be collected and key indicators to be produced.

Please confirm your participation to the event within 31 October, by replying to JRC-A2-EVENTS@ec.europa.eu
